External display in closed display mode

I have a problem using an external display with my macbook air closed.

I have a mouse, a keyboard, power plug and external display connected e reconized.

When i close the macbook don't fall asleep (if i press random key on the keyboard i can hear that music still play and so on) but the external display don't receive no signal.
