macbook air won't turn on

My 2018 Macbook air simply wouldn't charge, the USB-C ports stopped working, first the back left one, and now the second one too. All within a matter of hours. Now the laptop is dead and wont turn on. Apple wants 400+ for a mail in repair!

I tried SMC and NVRAM reset - no help. I showed the apple rep this article: https://9to5mac.com/2019/06/30/macbook-air-logic-board-issue-power-apple/ but they said my model is not covered

I recently updated to Big Sur MacOS 11.0.1

Any ideas? or just junk it and get a new laptop?

It appears that you exhausted any help from Apple on this notebook. As per the article, this issue still does not appear in Apple's "Exchange and Repair Extension Programs." (I just checked.)

As such, it appears you may be better off getting a new notebook, especially if you did not elect to get an AppleCare+ plan when you purchased it.

Actually after several hours and probably 10+ SMC reset and NVRAM resets I was about to write it off, when I left it plugged in for several hours.

It started up much to my surprise into "Safe Mode" - I let it charge to 100% (before the charging symbol wasn't showing even though plugged in). From there I went to recovery and just did a clean install of big sur.

All is well - for now!
