Apple Watch notifications do not show up

Apple watch SE 44mm + IPhone 7, I notice that there is no notification (haptic / ringtone or banner) while my iPhone is connected to either Bluetooth speakers / headphones or my truck’s audio playback. Is there a setting to change this? I’ve tried every setting in the watch itself and in the watch app through my phone. I don’t care if it plays through speakers or just vibrates and show me a banner I just want to be notified when I receive a text! It’s seriously frustrating and I’m considering returning the watch if there’s no fix.

Are you wearing the Watch at this time? If you have the Watch set to Wrist Detection, you should only receive your notifications on the Watch, not the iPhone, even when connected to a Bluetooth speaker, unless the iPhone is unlocked. At which time, the notification should come to the iPhone. That is how notifications should work for the Watch and iPhone. Many times, a short notification tone will not be heard on a vehicle because the tone is too short for it to wake up the Bluetooth to send the tone to the speaker. I have not seen any documentation on this, but this has been my experience is the years I've used multiple iPhones in my vehicle. If the iPhone is unlocked, you should see a banner on the screen for the notification, however that would depend on your setting for notifications. If the iPhone is locked, you should receive your notification on the Watch, unless you do not have it set to Mirror the iPhone.
