iPod not showing up in iTunes

I am working on uploading new music to my brothers iPod Classic. I did this about two months ago for him without any issues but now my computer and iTunes are not recognizing that he iPod is plugged in via USB. I checked "System Information" to see if my laptop was even reading the device and it isn't. I have no idea how to move forward....
