Locked out of ipad

Hi!

my grandmother recently locked herself out of her iPad. She disabled it, and we do not think she has backed anything up on it. I have found a way to reset it, but there are pictures on this iPad of my grandfather who recently passed away. Is there anyway we could get these photos off of the iPad? I’m not sure what iPad she has, I can give you the last couple of the serial number, but her iCloud doesn’t say what type it is. I am really hoping we are able to get these pictures. Thanks!

If the iPad indicates that it is disabled, any locally stored data is already lost. Locally stored data is encrypted - and as soon as the iPad becomes disabled, the encryption key is automatically destroyed. If an iCloud or iTunes backup exits, data can be restored to the iPad.

If the iPad was configured to use Photos in iCloud, the photos may still be accessible from iCloud:

If your iPad is disabled, or if the iPad passcode is forgotten, you have no alternative other than to follow this process:

If you’ve forgotten the passcode on your iPad, or your iPad is disabled – Apple Support

You’ll need access to either a PC (with iTunes installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS).

You’ll also need your AppleID and associated password. If these have also been forgotten, they can be recovered here:

https://iforgot.apple.com

To recover your credentials, you’ll need access to one of the following:

  • Your primary email address mailbox that corresponds with your AppleID
  • Any of the secondary/recovery email addresses that should be configured for your AppleID account
  • Any of the trusted telephone numbers (fixed line or Cellular/Mobile) that are associated with your AppleID

Unless you AppleID account has not been fully/correctly configured, or has been seriously neglected, recovery of the AppleID and password should not be difficult.
