Canon Lide 400 and Catalina 10.15.7

Canon Lide 400 and Catalina 10.15.7

Ever since the latest Catalina update, my scanner isn't recognized by my imac until I unplug from port on back of computer and then plug back in. I spent 1/2 with Canon this AM and they went remotely on to my settings, and they made one change. We really thought it was fixed, but after restarting imac, it did the same thing.

The last message I got was "Failed to open a connection to the device (-21345). Can someone advise me please?

Ok. Some day in the future, and without any warning, Canon will stop supporting that LiDE 400. That is where VueScan Professional will begin to pay for itself. They support 6600+ scanners with the same application, and although I purchased VueScan Professional in 2010, it still works with an even older Canon scanner, and I have never paid an upgrade fee to the vendor since.

Canon is showing the same version (3.3.0) of the IJ Scan Utility Lite for both Catalina and Big Sur. It was updated on Dec 2, 2020. The Canon LiDE 400 Software Package was released March 2020, and would likely be OK for Catalina, but would not have been tested on Big Sur. Both of these items are available from the Canon site when one chooses macOS Catalina 10.15.

I would never grant any remote person access to my Mac, and if you gave them your adminstrator password, you should now change that immediately.

I use VueScan Professional with my ancient Canon scanner, so will be of no use in helping you point your LiDE 400 at the new software.

I bought the scanner in Mar 2020, and it worked find until I went to 10.15 I checked the Canon sight and I have the latest updates on IJ Scan Utility. I am not thinking of going to Big Sur, too many questions. As far as remote control, I was very much in charge of my computer, I did not give him my password, and I could see everything he was looking at. Thank you for your advice, it is very kind of you.

My issue with the scanner is still not solved tho, any advice regarding that?

From menu : About This Mac panel, what is your iMac product description line including the parenthesis? Is the scanner plugged in directly to your iMac, or via a powered USB hub? You have probably already done so, but check the USB connection to the scanner itself.

VueScan Professional is a single-purchase, standalone, 64-bit Scanner utility that can drive your LiDE 400 without any Canon software or drivers installed. As mentioned, you can use VueScan as a trial to determine if your scanner is disconnecting due to Canon software, or iMac/Scanner hardware/power issues.

The scanner is plugged directly into the back of the computer. I have four ports, and I have tried them all. I get the message, "Failed to open a connection to the device" If I unplug and plug back in, the scanner starts, and it doesn't matter with port. I have checked the connection to the scanner itself several times.

My computer doesn't seem to find the connection to the scanner when first turned on; or again later if I haven't used the scanner for awhile.

Where do I find "iMac product description line?"

If I have to I will try Vuescan; just disappointed I have to spend extra money to make this work.

Thanks for continuing to help me
