I am considering buying the Apple Watch series 6 as a Christmas gift. It gives the option to buy with gps or gps with cellular. I am not sure which one they will want and I don’t want to ask it would give the present away.
are they able to add the cellular later if they choose or do I need to purchase it now?
No, you cannot add the cellular function later. But you do not HAVE to use the cellular feature on GPS + Cellular models (you can turn it off). Using the cellular feature requires that the IPhone and watch use the same carrier network, the carrier provider must support the watch, and there is usually an additional monthly fee for the watch (about $10). FYI, as long as the iPhone is nearby, the GPS only model can do everything a GPS + Cellular model can.
