I wiped my MacBook and now it has the folder with a question mark icon and says that the "startup disk is no longer available or doesn't contain a working Mac operating system." What do I do next?

2012 or later MacBook, command-option-shift-R boot to reinstall the operating system.
early 2011 or older, find the original installer disc to install the system.
