email preview pane is gone

In Catalina the preview pane is gone. I do get the inverted T and can drag it up or down and release it but it doesn't do anything. I tried different combinations of keys but to no avail.

I had tried it with the side panel enabled and with it disabled. The T dragged but never did anything. Turns out with it at the bottom I had to drag it almost to the very top before it worked. Thanks for the help.

You're welcome. You also have to drag it at least 3/4s to the left if using the side panel. Maybe more.

Depending on whether you have Show Side Panel enabled, you do have to drag either upwards or to the left until the panel pops open. It does not slide open.
