My new Apple TV 4K does not let me have the option of Dolby atmos. The immersive audio setting will not appear under audio format!

I’m not convinced that the immersive audio option is intended to appear at all with that setup, as the support document doesn’t mention it. Perhaps one of the other forum users with similar equipment as you can provide a more definitive answer. Or contact Apple Support.
I think you are right. Apple doesn't say it but it seems that if you are using home pods Immersive audio will not appear.
It would be so simple for apple to just say that in the set up guide...

That option will only show if you have a compatible audio system. Please specify your audio system.

it says that if immersive audio doesn’t appear that my setup may be wrong. Yet gives no way to see what is wrong or how to troubleshoot.

If immersive audio does not appear in the audio settings under audio format how can you make it appear ?
