Why no preview for iTunes music on Mac Catalina?

I used to be able to preview a song in the iTunes app. Now that is gone. When you click on the 'play' button you get an ad for joining Apple Music. When you decline and say no thanks you still cannot preview the music.

This still works on an iPad but not the Mac. What is going on?

Does iTunes store allow preview of songs anymore? When I find an album or song I'm interested in buying, and click on the preview arrow, a pop-up appears asking me to try out Apple music. When I close the pop-up, no music plays, and if I try again, the pop up appears again. The Apple support page says, in step 2, that it is possible to preview music. But that is not my experience. I follow the directions precisely on the Apple support page, but all that happens is that no music plays, only the pop-up.

Why can't I buy music for download from the iTunes Store? I launched music on my laptop (Older Macbook pro Catalina 10.15.7 - waiting for the new 15" before upgrading) When I go to the music app, I cannot preview songs I have looked up. I get a lame add for Apple Music and when I hit "Not Now" it goes into a loop and will not allow the preview. - And Yes, under preferences - General - Sync Apple music is 'Unchecked.' I also noticed there is no link to buy any song I looked up. Oh, I do have links to buy the crap music Apple is pushing. I cannot use steaming services based on my how I use my music. I must be able to download. So, Apple WTF did you do to the operating system to lock me out? I have already wasted too much time on this and will be buying my music elsewhere, if there isn't a simple fix. So, Good Job on losing the money I give you.

Can't buy songs off iTunes anymore? I am trying to buy a single song without joining Apple Music. Is this possible? OS = Catalina I click on the iTunes tab. Enter a song into the search bar top left. Select the song to play a sample, but instead of hearing any music, up pops the advert for me to sign up to Apple Music. When I click Not Now, the music sample does not play, and nor do I get a Buy Now button. Please help me buy single songs, without having to sign up to Apple Music (even for the free 3 month trial).

Previews in the iTunes Store still work the same as they always did. However, click to make sure you are looking in the iTunes Store, not in Apple Music -- see below.
