Why not? Are you referring to iCloud backup? Do you connect the iPhone to wi-fi and power and lock the screen at night for a backup? Have you tried to make a backup by tapping on Back Up Now? What happens? See this for issues with iCloud backups. If you can't back up to iCloud or restore from iCloud backup failed - Apple Support
