How do I get to use my ICloud and why can I not use my Apple Password

I want to transfer my photos on my various hard drive devices onto my paying for iCloud storage? Please????

Plug in the external drive to computer.
Sign in to iCloud.com, and click on Photos app icon.
Then click on the “Upload Photos” icon on the top and select your photos to upload.
