email not marked as read

Using my iPad Pro on iOS 14.2. If I read my mail on the iPad it will not automatically be marked as read. I either have to manually mark it on the iPad or go to my iPhone and open the email there. Mail is auto marked as read on my iPhone (using iOS 14.2).


This is for iCloud email. Until the latest iOS update I’ve not had this problem.

This specific issue can usually be resolved by a restart of the iPad:


  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.
