if you have issues you can remove the printer/scanner and add it back in

> System Preferences> Printers & Scanners, and add it again, select AirPrint.

I have worked on my mac with a scanner type Canoscan Lide 210 for some 10 years ( last was the IOS Catalina 10 ) however after the last update into IOS 11.01 Big Sur is that no longer possible / compatible ( rejected by the new software ) Is there no recovery whatsoever to it ? I did try to re-download the software and tried to install the hardware driver all over again but failed to do so .

I am afraid that a new compatible hardware is needed to resolve the problem ??

In addition to the comments above I offer the following. If there is a certain scanner you like, then simply check its web site to see if they have compliant software. But please understand that every time we upgrade our operating system, we may be faced with the requirement to download new scanning software (if it is available). I have an Epson GT-S50 non-flatbed scanner that works fine. Last, when scanner software is not available, the Apple app Image Capture will scan, although it is not full featured. And the VueScan app works with most any scanner. It is full featured. You can download and try it to see if it works with your scanner. Then if you like it, there is a one time cost to purchase it. I can recommend it. (I have no association with VueScan.)
