No Longer Seeing Calendar Alerts in Big Sur

I played with the Notification settings for Calendar and changed the setting from Alerts to Banners. I changed it back to Alerts and I receive no alerts anymore (I was receiving them before playing with the setting.) The notifications show up in the Notification Center though but it's rather useless for me.

I did a test with the Reminders app (which has the same settings as above) and I got the same result: No alerts.
