Add OS 10.11 to OS 10.6.8

I am running 10.6.8 along with a Boot Camp partition for Windows. I would like to add OS 10.11 in another partition. Is this possible (Capability to run either of the 3)? I have a 2009 Imac with 4 gb ram and a core 2 duo.

I don't think you will be happy with an external boot drive that on a computer o that age.

Your internal drive bus has a max transfer rate 3000MB/sec

If Apple installed a 1.5GB/sec hard drive, common on entry-level models, your max rate is 1500MB/sec

An external FireWire800 drive can transfer at up to 800MB/sec

A USB2 external drive can do no more than 480MB/sec on a good day.

I think it will work, but will be dreadfully slow.

Even so, I bought a 256 gb flash drive to try installing 10.11 on it (In order to Occasionally run Zoom and a newer browser). I get the following error:

“OS X can't be installed on your computer.

Invalid request

Stop the installation program to restart the computer and try again”

I formatted as extended journaled with Guid scheme.

Tried several iterations of the process. Next I am trying to write all zeroes on drive (several hours left yet to complete) and will make another Attempt.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
