Time Machine

Does Time Machine have the option of not erasing old copies?

I have had the same issue twice. I lost all the backup of years. Because Time Machine just erased it without asking.

It should have al least the option of asking before beginning erasing old backup.

That should be extremly easy for an Apple software developper

It would probably be easy for Apple to implement, but for now, no, there's no option for it to ask when removing old versions. It automatically does that once the TM disk is running out of space.

TM is not an archiving feature actually. It was not design for that. You'd be better with external drives, DVD's, etc. for that purpose.

If the files are that important that you need them a long time later, you should consider always leaving them on your internal main drive or archived in a separate drive or disc as mentioned above.
