Connecting iPhone12 to iTunes on Mac with 10.13.6 (High Sierra)

My iMac is on 10.13.6 and cannot be updated to Catalina. Connecting my iPhone 12 prompts me to download an update to enable me to connect the iphone but the system hangs for ages and then says it cannot connect to the server!!! I have used my daughters mac on the same wifi network and it works fine. Pic shows details of my iMac and the end of the download attempt
