Restart your mac while pressing and holding down the Command and R keys.

This will boot your mac to your Recovery HD.

Click on Disk Utility and press Continue.

You haven't stated which OS your mac is running.

From macOS High Sierra upwards there should be a View item in the menubar

Click on View and then select Show All Devices.

In the left panel of Disk Utility under Internal highlight the Volume usually called Macintosh HD

or whatever you called it and click on First Aid and press Run.

Do this until you get the green tick, run First Aid on the Disk as well,

if your mac is running the APFS file system you can try running First Aid

on the Container Disk as well, run until you get the green tick.

When Done Quit Disk Utility and Restart the mac normally.

Also try a Safe Mode restart, How to use safe mode on your Mac – Apple Support

Safe Mode takes a long time to start up so be patient.
