Cannot Backup iPhone

I have recently tried to backup my iPhone from my laptop and my phone itself, and it staying in an infinite loop of "Determining time for backup" it has been the same for about an hour without touching the phone. Is there anything I can do before I take it to be fixed? is this a common issue with other people? It is an iPhone 8 with 13.7 downloaded onto it.
