I have subscribed to a calendar on my Mac + iCloud, but it's not showing up on my iPad.
I see it listed under "subscribed calendars" and it is 'checked', yet the calendar events are not showing up. Can someone help please!

I don't understand what you mean by 'Shared Calendar'. In the list of calendars, the Subscribed calendar is listed and is ticked.
Yes, turning alerts On is one of the things I already tried, but it makes no difference.

I think we're talking about different things: I'm talking about a Subscribed calendar and you're, I think, referring to a Shared calendar (a shared Apple calendar). I don't get a 'Show Changes' option:
I subscribed to the calendar on my MacBook and set it to sync using iCloud and, as I mentioned, it is listed on my iPad but the details don't actually show up - although they are all there on my MacBook calendar.
If you go into the Shared Calendar on the iPad, is Shared Events turned on?
Calendar app > Calendars (bottom of the app) > locate the shared calendar > tap on the (i) > is Show Changes under Shared Events turned on?
Per screenshot, Event Alerts isn't turned on.
