My Grandmother found an Apple Watch series 3 recently, and she gave it to me because she did not know how it worked. I turned it on and reset it to factory settings to try and use it, but it has an activation lock on it from the previous owner whom I do not know. Any advice on what to do? Thank you.
The Police are where people go if they lost something like an Apple watch. Apple cannot access the device, it is locked as I said. Only the owner who locked it can access it. No, even if you hadn’t erased it they cannot unlock it or access anything on it. That is why Apple is popular. If your gear is lost or stolen your information is safe. It is a great safety feature in my opinion. If the owner reported it lost to the police old 2 years ago they would still have the serial number in the database. I had something lost once and a few years later Police in another state recovered it and contacted me because I had reported it at the time of loss. What you do with it is your choice. As I said you can contact Apple at the link I gave to ask what they suggest.
You need to notify the Police as someone else owns it. The owner is probably looking for it. You cannot unlock it or use it. Only the rightful owner who set the lock can
If the Police cannot contact the original owner and I cannot contact the original owner, does that not make it different regardless if I have it or the police has it? This was not lost very recently so I assume the owner has stopped looking for it since it had run out of battery until today when I bought a charger for it. You're telling me the apple store cannot do a single thing to it to maybe find out the owners email?
No, it is better to turn it over to the Police. The Apple store doesn't handle that sort of thing.
Could I return it to an Apple store to replace it?
How would they be able to handle something like this over an apple store who can access the device directly?
