Is it normal for a brand new macbook pro to heat up and have extremely loud fan noise? literally setting it up out of the box and the heat is insane

Only if you have blocked the vent on the rear of the computer. Be sure there isn't a clear covering that needs to be removed. You should also remove the protective covering on the display and the foam pad that was on the keypad.


If the problem persists, then return the machine along with all packaging and your dated receipt and ask for a replacement. You have 14-days from the date of purchase in which to return it to the store or to contact Apple and arrange a product return.


Make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service after the stores re-open. If you need to find an Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple. Also, see How to find your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) or Distributor (AAD). You may also get Apple authorized service at a local Best Buy or contact Apple Support for more options.
