Can't find a quick and reliable option to overdub audio regions

I can't find a quick and reliable option to overdub audio regions of a track.

-Take Folder in my opinion is quite distracting and time consumer

-Create New Track can create tons of tracks if you overdub many takes

-Create Track Alternative could be right option except for switching, after each recording, to the new alternative view hiding the original track... and if you have may alternatives you can browse among tons of tracks losing the perception of which track is the main track....

So, is it possible that a DAW like Logic can't overdub an audio region simply substituting its portion that I record on?? The "alternative tracks" could be the right solution but Logic should make me see only the new recorded portion on the original track....

Maybe I'm missing something....?
