My email (Mail) opens website email in Chrome instead of Safari?

GMAIL in safari emails won't open When I login to gmail in Safari and I click on an email I only see email subject with the "reply" and "forward" immediately below. The only way to see the body of the email is to click the "Open In New Window" button. I'm running: Safari: 16.4 (18615.1.26.110.1) MacOS: 13.3.1

 (Apple menu) > System Preferences... > General > Default web browser:

Select Safari from the dropdown menu.
