Touch ID - option to use fingerprint to unlock my Mac doesn't work

What should I do if the option to use fingerprint ID "to unlock my Mac" is greyed out and can't be checked?

Use Touch ID on your Mac - Apple Support



Still having issues—



Try resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295


Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379



Call Customer Support (800) MY–APPLE (800–692–7753)

or on line https://getsupport.apple.com/
