I have an ear;y 2009 mac pro that I upgraded to a 12 core 3.6 ghz intel xeon, 32 gigs of 1333 mhm ddr3 ecc ram and using Nvidia GeForce GT 120 510mb graphics card. Currently using OSX 10.11.6


Can I upgrade to Mojave or High Sierra or even Catalina? Thanks

El Capitan is as far as that model can update to sorry.


Sierra requires a 2010 model or later.

Mojave requires a 2012 model or 2010 and 2011 models with compatible video cards.

Catalina requires a 2013 model or later.

There is a firmware hack you can apply to the 2009 MacPro 4.1 which will make it describe itself as a 2010-2012 MacPro 5.1, which would then allow it to upgrade to macOS High Sierra. And if you were to install a suitable 'Metal' graphics card you could then upgrade to macOS Mojave.

Sadly not allowed to give you details of the hack here, but use your imagination and the internet to guide you.
