Just purchased an iMac that had a number of apps included but when I tried to apply the updates from the App Store got the following message:
Cannot Update App
garage band cannot be updated because it was refunded or purchased with a different apple id
I found a solution. I was able to just move those Apps to TRASH and just reinstalled them from App Store.
Now it's the latest version and I am hoping that it will continue to let me update as well.

Did you buy the computer new or used? That type of message usually indicates the computer was owned previously and the prior owner did not properly log out to prepare it for sale.
Did you log into the App Store with your own Apple ID and password?
