I have a Logitech C920x webcam. it works great with my Mac Mini but does not work with my 2019 Macbook pro. the MBP can detect the camera and can turn it on but no video image just black screen. I have installed the same Logitech software on both and both same OS. In addition on the MBP i created a new user and that suer has the same result.

Hi - The problem is solved, after it worked in safe mode I started disabling different applications. The culprit was the Kensington DockWorks application.

I had this same problem with the C920X. My fix: update Zoom (in my case) application. As soon as I did this, the camera worked. When zoom updated again, the problem returned. (I should have auto-update but...). Once I updated again (and turned on autoupdate), the camera worked again. Hope this helps.
In case it helps when I start an application that should use the camera I get this msg repeated in the logs

When you use it with FaceTime or Zoom is it 720p? or 1080p?
The specs look like it'll record 1080p but only conference at 720p? (which seems weird)
Hi - It is not limited to zoom. Same behaviour with FaceTime, Quicktime and Logitech camera settings app. Works on all my other computers except the MBP
One advice I tried was to boot in safe mode and that worked! So now how do I now determine what is causing a conflict?
