Screen saver freezing after update.

I'm using Majave 10.14.6 and after a recent update my mac keeps freezing when the screen saver comes on. It also freezes if I select screen saver in system preferences. Everything just freezes up, if left for a minute or so it unfreezes, but everything runs extremely slow and lags unless I restart. Before the update everything was fine. I did try upgrading to Catalina but that caused more issues with my fan running whilst sleeping, so I reinstalled Mojave.

Any ideas what to do?

Hey,

I think you should reinstall Catalina from scratch but before that you should repair you disk and upgrade to Catalina using MacOs recovery (Just a suggestion) and then leave your Mac for about 6 hours while its turned off. Then you can start it up again.

Thanks, i tried these things but the result is the same. As soon as I select screen saver it freezes everything. It seems to be doing it as it searches for the file (just the landscapes screensavers from apple) but the whole mac freezes for a while. Similar when the actual screen saver starts.

The fan problem from

catalina seemed to be common from

what I read, I didn’t see a definite answer to it. It was going full speed and the laptop was really hot to touch whilst sleeping. Normally the fan rarely starts at all. Im just hoping for A better update on some front. Thanks for the tips. :)

FWIW, the last Mojave security update broke the photo screen savers. The workaround is to select a non-photo screen saver; Flurry, Shell, Message, etc.

Always so scared to do up dates I hate changes when they go bad. Like printing my labels for eBay. Have to use whole other iPad for that. So many things go wrong on updating
