I have a new MacBook Air (2020) and the fan runs constantly. There are no intensive tasks running, the room temperature is normal, and I am on a flat surface (desk). Any thoughts?

Do you have the latest version of macOS, which is 10.15.6, installed? In Activity Monitor on the CPU tab, does it show at least 80-90% idle on the bottom left if you leave it alone for about half a minute?
I have the same MacBook and I can't hear the fan even when I put my ear to it, when not running something demanding.

Check your Activity Monitor to see what activities that may be using excessive amounts of CPU cycles, that would cause excessive heat and fan use.
Well if it is brand new and you are not happy with it take it back and get a replacement.

It will always run. Are you saying that you think it's running too fast or too loudly.
It is very loud. If I close my computer it stop (obviously) but otherwise runs loudly.
