How do I stop Keynote placing a white "highlight" on text??

I seem to recall having this problem a couple years ago, can't remember the workaround, and not able to find any solutions online. No amount of retyping or reformatting, will get rid of the highlight. Maddening!

keynote paragraph styles - unavailable I am trying to add and edit paragraph styles using Keynote version 12.0 (7033.0.134) I can see styles I have defined but the 'add style' button is greyed out. This is with text selected. You can also see from the drop down that I cannot edit. Can anyone help me understand why this is happening? Thanks in advance. d

Its one of two things:

1 - you double click the text and its showing a white selection highlight

Goto: Apple Menu > System Preferences > General > click on the Highlight Colour dropdown menu:

2 - the text box background fill is white (Inspector - Format - Style - Fill)
