My iPhone XS Max has water damage, the phone still turns on.

My iPhone XS Max has water damage, the phone still turns on but the screen doesn’t work. A lot of my pictures where never backed up to the cloud and I really want to retrieve them. Any suggestions of what I can do?? I’ve tried connecting to my laptop but it tells me I need to unlock my phone.

I'm taking it that you have never backed up or synced to that computer, you aren't doing automatic backups to iCloud, and you aren't using iCloud photos. If that is the case you are going to lose those photos and videos when Apple does an out-of-warranty replacement of your iPhone. Your only other option is to find a reputable 3rd party repair site that can do board level soldering and have them check if they can fix your phone and then do a backup of all your data. After that Apple may not do any further service on your iPhone.
