AIRPODS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR APPLECARE?

My mom just gave me her AirPods after I lost mine. I wanted to transfer my AppleCare to this one but it says that they aren't eligible ?? Why not? I purchased AppleCare but now I can't use it?

AppleCare does not ever transfer to a different device. It stays with the device. If that device transfers to a new owner, then its AppleCare may also transfer to the new owner.
