Is there a better protection plan for MacBook than Malwarebytes? Something that will be compatible and protect my computer?

The current version uses a kernel extension. MalwareBytes is aware of this and are working on a version that will work in the upcoming macOS 11, Big Sur.

Malwarebytes is one of the few such apps people who have spent much time in these forums recommend. Even so, most of us just download the free version when we need it. There isn't a lot of need to get the paid version.
Nor do you need "anti-virus" software.

Do not install any third party antivirus app. Stay with MalwareBytes (free version) to periodically check for malware.

Thanks. I appreciate the answer. I got a pop up saying that Malwarebytes is not compatible with the next IOS update so I don't know what to do.
