Catalina OS not downloading and installing

Hi there,

Trying to update my work Mac from High Sierra 10.13.6 to Catalina 10.15 (after COVID lockdown) via the App Store, and it seems to start to download but after a few minutes it stops and doesn't progress any further.

My network connection is through ethernet and not WiFi so connection wise it is fine.

The installer file doesn't even start or carry on what it usually does.

Mac model: iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017)

Any ideas?

How much free space do you have on your boot drive. Have you run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up" or anti-virus apps on your Mac?

Boot into Safe Mode (How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support) by booting with the Shift key held down and try installing from there.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing some system cache cleaning, volume verifying and directory repairing.
