Where is my AirPlay icon?

I cannot see it althogh I chose Apple menu  > System Preferences, clicked Displays, then made sure that ”Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available” is selected. Nothing happened: the icon did now show up. I even went to System Preferences and tried to click the Airplay option (under Applications) but nothing happened. Any views?

I have the latest Mac OS Catalina.

iMac 27", 10.15

First, make sure your iPad and your Mac are both compatible with Sidecar. This feature requires fairly recent devices.

If they both are: Sidecar can work over a cable or using Wifi.

Did you try connecting your iPad to your mac using a cable?

Read through this document to check if they meet the requirements, and to learn more about how to use Sidecar

(I have a new mac, but only a very old iPad, so I haven't had the chance to try any of this)
