How do I update iOS

Apple, this is ridiculous and it’s coercion, ransom, that my new Apple Watch 3 will not pair to my perfectly working iPhone 6 Plus because Apple won’t upgrade the software on the 6plus to iOS 13 but require it for the watch to pair. RIDICULOUS!!!
There has to be another answer other than returning the watch or buying a newer phone. What is it?
If your profile is up to date then your iphone 6 is updated as far as it will go,it won't go higher than ios12.And to pair with a new watch 3 or 5 you require ios13
Settings>General>software update. If you don’t see one, either your iPhone is up to date or it doesn’t support iOS 13. Tell me if it doesn’t.
It does not. It shows I have automatic updates but I don’t have current update. I am trying to pair my new Apple Watch and I get the error that my phone does not have the update I need.
So in other words I need to get a new phone?
Yes, or return the Watch for a refund.
There is no other option, the 6 Plus does not have sufficient RAM to run iOS 13.
