iMessage

I am not receiving iMessage notifications but only from one person, when they send me a text I get a notification but if it’s iMessage I get nothing. It doesn’t even come up with the red icon above the message app to show I have a message, I have searched through my settings turning things on and off but nothing seems to work. What do I do?
