Can you listen to music on your Apple Watch without having phone with you?
I am thinking of buying a watch and wanted to know if you can listen to music on your watch without having our phone with you?

If you "Standard" you mean a GPS only, and no cellular chip, then not really. If you are on a WiFi network you can send/receive iMessages, and your iPhone carrier supports WiFi Calling, then you can make phone calls, but that is a very unlikely situation, and most likely only going to be true when you are at home and near your iPhone anyway.
The above link, in the footnotes, it tells you that SMS/MMS requires access to your iPhone, even if it is a cellular (access can be across the internet for cellular, but the iPhone has to be accessible)
