Changed sim card but wanted to keep my existing number

I recently changed my provider, but wanted to keep the same mob. number. I thought that I had set everything up fine and I had confirmation that my old number had been transferred across successfully. However I have just seen that for my iMessage and FaceTime apps, they are using a new number which I am struggling to revert back to my existing number. Please can someone provide some assistance?
