Lost ipad

I received an email that says "activation lock is requesting your password on my ipad" however my ipad was stollen about a month ago and i did everything as directed to lock it & alert me when it connects to internet.

What is the reason i got the email & can my ipad be tract?

likely you just willingly removed the activation lock which disabled them from using the device

Turn off Activation Lock - Apple Support

it's called phishing Identify legitimate emails from the App Store or iTunes Store - Apple Support

and Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Tugi
