iPad Remains Locked After Update

I purchased a new iPad and it worked fine all day yesterday until I updated it. Now it will not unlock after I enter my pass code. It will not allow me to use touch access without first using the pass code. I do not get a disabled warning, it just remains locked. Any suggestions?

Try a forced restart and see if you can enter the code once the iPad reboots.


  • iPad models with Face ID: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then press and hold the Power button until the device restarts.
  • iPad with Home button, iPhone 6s or earlier, and iPod touch (6th generation) or earlier: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons until you see the Apple logo.
