Hello, I am wondering how to set up an endless loop for an animation (a simple flashing text in a single slide) in Keynote. I successfully set up the start and the end but cannot set up the loop. Thank you!

You haven't specified how you setup the flashing text, so if you are using builds go to:
Inspector > Document > Document and select the Loop Slideshow option
also Inspector > Animate > Transitions; set Start Transition to Automatically with a zero delay

Look at the settings in the Keynote file I created and see how they correspond with the suggestion I gave in my original reply
or paste your own text into to my Keynote file and add any additional content
I would like to set up an endless loop of a portion of a text in the first slide of a 10 slides presentation...(not make all the 10 slides flashing...). I think that Keynote simply does not offer such a basic option...The only way is, maybe, to create a gif. animation...

OK, but it works with a one slide presentation only...if there is more then 1 slides it does not work since the automatic transition proceeds to the second slide stopping the loop

This is a different scenario but yes, create a movie file or animated GIF and place on slide 1 and set to loop.
