popped up- "this copy of the install macOS Mojave application is damaged, and can't be used to install macOS. what can I do to get a useable macOS Mojave application?

delete that installer and empty the trash.

A slow download speed or slow connection to the server cause corruption— try a faster network, or a faster time of day for your ISP.
