Personally in 30+ years of Mac use I've never installed malware. I look at Malwarebytes as a relatively effective tool to remove malware for those unfortunates that managed to install junk they shouldn't have.

If you mean an alternative, none that I would use.

I’m skeptical about most of the available anti-malware add-on apps.
