HomePod Region lock?

Dear community,

I live in Finland and the Apple HomePod isn't available in my country. However, I visit Spain often and I could buy the device from there and take it home with me as a gift to my father.


My question then: Is there a region lock built in depending on where you buy the device from? I don't want to be stuck with Spanish Siri so I thought I would check with you before buying the HomePod. Siri can speak Finnish on iPhones but it wouldn't be a problem if the HomePod only spoke English.


Some features may not work, which I'm fully aware of but any major ones I should know about?

As far as I am aware the only difference between models bought in different countries is the shape of the plug. Siri requests for local radio, news, weather, etc. may not work in regions where HomePod has yet to be officially released, and Siri on HomePod has support for many fewer languages than iOS as a whole.

There is a 2018 Macrumours article (search homepod unsupported country) that suggests it should work but Siri will only be able to use English. There might also be difficulties with streaming Apple Music via Siri because the account is country-based. Playing music from a Mac (Homesharing) or Airplaying from an iOS device should work.
