It just vibrates and I have to hold the side button down and then press the crown to create a screenshot. It generates a large sysdiagnose diagnostic log so I know it tries to create the screenshot.
Is this likely to be a defect in my watch or is it a problem with Apple Watch 6.1.1?
I have completely reset the software on the watch and it makes no difference.

Ah ok. Few thing you can try then. First, make sure your Watch is updated. Believe the most current version of watchOS is 6.1.1. If that is installed and the problem persists, try restarting you Watch.

The way you take a screenshot on Apple Watch is by pressing both the Digital Crown and side button. Ensure that the option is turned on: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204673
That the subject of my post ... it crashes if I press them at the same.
I tried those and they didn’t help so I chatted with Apple support and they think it may be a hardware problem. I’m going to take the watch to a repair centre tomorrow.
go to general in settings and make sure that you have screenshots enabled for your watch
