You can't push and hold the top Power/sleep/wake button then on your iPad’s screen “slide to power off”?

I can hold the button down till my finger hurts. It does depress, but the "slide to power off"
does not appear. It used to.
No matter how long I depress the button, no response.
Go to settings, general, scroll down to tap on shut down. Then get an appointment at an Apple Store for an evaluation.
What about a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons?
Tried that with no success.
